As our children have gotten older (6, 8 & 10), I have tried to
give them more responsibilities. I think it is important for them to
learn how to run a house and it also helps me! They are each responsible
for their own bed making, room cleaning, and putting away their own
laundry. Those are chores for which they don't get paid.
Then we use this chore
chart to keep track of the chores they've done to earn money. They
just put their initials down after they complete a chore. They earn
a quarter per chore. They are limited to the same number of quarters
as their age. So, the 6 year old can get six quarters, etc. They divide
their money between saving, charity (church), and spending.
Here is a list of the items we have on our chore chart:
Set Table Properly for Supper
Sort Dirty Clothes
Wash and Dry a Load of Laundry
Unload Dishwasher
Fold and Put Away Towels
Dust
Help with Trash
Mom's Choice (I often let them clean fingerprints off the walls when
they ask to do this one)
