I used to go to ALDI
regularly to do my grocery shopping. I thought that was the best way
to save money. However, I have recently discovered the power of coupons!
By matching grocery store ads with coupons, I frequently come home with
some items that are free. I still shop at ALDI for many items, but we
now also visit the regular grocery stores.
Coupon Tips
1. Don't buy something just because you have a coupon. It isn't a bargain
if you don't need it, or if the generic is cheaper even with the coupon.
2. Convenience foods need to be an exceptionally low price to be cheaper
than homemade.
3. Keep a price book. This will help you figure out if a sale plus
coupon is really a good deal. I have a small notebook in my purse with
items listed and their prices at my local stores.
4. Only buy the sale items. The grocery stores are counting on getting
you into the store with their sale and then buying everything there.
5. Check out the Grocery
Gathering at BeCentsAble. They list the sale items for many stores
and pair them up with coupons for you.
Drug Store Shopping
I also recently started doing what is called the drug store game. I shop
mainly at CVS, but other chain drug stores have similar programs. By combining
their sales, coupons and what they call extra care bucks, I get most of
our health and beauty supplies for pennies. MoneySavingMom
has a tutorial about how to make the CVS
deals work for you.
