History of St. Patrick's Day - find out how St. Patrick's Day came
to be and why. Record your finding in your mini-book.
Activity 3
Who's St. Patrick? - Record a little bit about who he was, his
history, and why he is important.
Activity 4
Symbols/Customs - explain what these symbols mean: shamrock, leprechaun,
the color green, shillelagh, St. Patrick's Day pinch, pot of gold, corned
beef and cabbage.
Activity 5
Celebrations - pick at least 3 countries and give a brief description
of how they celebrate St. Patrick's Day.
Activity 6
Map of Ireland - on the map locate and mark Dublin, Limerick, Galway,
Waterford, and Belfast. Next locate these bodies of water: River Shannon,
Donegal Bay, Cork Harbor, River Foyle, and River Suir. Locate and mark
these mountain ranges: Derryveagh Mountains, Slieve Bloom Mountains,
Galtee Mountains, and Ox Mountains. Lastly mark the bodies of water
that surround Ireland.
Activity 7
Irish dinner - plan and cook an Irish dinner for your family. Record
your menu in your mini book and take a picture of your feast to put
in there also.
Activity 8
Snakes - in your mini-book record the life cycle of a snake, what
they eat, some habitats where you find snakes, and interesting facts.
Activity 9
Ireland's population - what is the population of Ireland today?
What was the population in 1841? What is the difference of population
between the 2 dates? Compare the population of these 2 towns: Holywood
and Galway. Which has more and by how much? Which city has the largest
population? Which has the least? What is the difference between them?
Activity 10
If I had a pot of gold? Is a creative writing exercise. Pretend
you have been giving a pot of gold for St. Patrick's Day and write about
what you'd do with it.
Activity 11
Irish Blessing - pick an Irish Blessing and copy it onto the mini-book.
Activity 12

Patrick's Day Math Word Problems - after they answer the math problems
cut along the lines to separate and store in the pocket fold.
Activity 13
Green
on Green - a fun art activity for them to do. After the paper has
dried glue it to the front for the cover. They could write out Happy
St. Patrick's Day and draw things that are related to the holiday.
